ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI – A two-vehicle crash early Sunday in White Pigeon Township claimed the life of a 26-year-old Sturgis man and left another person hospitalized.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s office said the accident happened on Fawn River Road near Mill Pond Road at about 2:04 a.m.
An early investigation indicates the victim was driving on Fawn River Road when his vehicle went past the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on.
The Sturgis man, who was found pinned inside his vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
First responders had the other driver, a 28-year-old LaGrange, Indiana resident, transported to a hospital in Indiana where they were expected to make a recovery.
An investigation remains underway, but the sheriff’s office said alcohol and speed appear to have been factors in the wreck.
