Narrative
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – One person was killed Saturday afternoon, April 13, when they were struck by a vehicle in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 75 in Springfield Township that injured three other people, including two other pedestrians.
Local police say four vehicles were initially involved in one crash on the left northbound lane of I-75 approaching East Holly Road at around 1:15 p.m.
While the four involved drivers were outside of their vehicles exchanging information on the roadway, within a construction zone, a fifth vehicle rear-ended one of the other four cars, causing a chain reaction that struck three of the previous drivers.
One person, a 24-year-old Alpena resident, died from their injuries at the scene.
Michigan State Police troopers had to use a tourniquet on one other victim who suffered a compound fracture. That patient was then transported to an area hospital, along with a third pedestrian and the causing driver, both of whom sustained minor injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate.
