Narrative
CLINTON COUNTY, MI – A four-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a 74-year-old woman on Interstate 96 near Eagle.
Michigan State Police said the fatal collision took place at Grange Road, prompting a response from officials shortly after 1:50 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows the 74-year-old woman, a Sparta resident, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze when she stopped the vehicle due to construction traffic ahead. Moments later, her vehicle was hit from the back by a semi-truck by a 33-year-old man from Grand Rapids.
That impact sent a 2020 Land Rover into a second semi-truck, operated by a 23-year-old man from Grand Rapids. Because of the force, the Land Rover was overturned and came to rest in a nearby ditch while the Cruze was left crushed between both tractor-trailers.
While an investigation remains in progress, both the 33-year-old truck driver and the 62-year-old driver of the Land Rover, were transported to a local hospital with major injuries.
