Narrative
DETROIT, MI – A pair of collisions Monday morning, April 22, closed part of southbound Interstate 75 in southwest Detroit and left one person critically injured.
The accidents unfolded on the southbound lanes approaching Exit 43B to Schaefer Highway, and a call was made to Detroit Regional Communications Center at around 10:00 a.m.
Preliminary details show a 2013 Ford Escape and a Wayne County Road Truck were involved in the initial crash, which resulted in no reported injuries.
Michigan State Police said the second collision was reported not long after. A 48-year-old was operating a Jeep Compass in the left lane when the Jeep collided with a Wayne County arrowboard truck.
While the driver of the county vehicle was not reported hurt, the Jeep driver, who suffered critical injuries, was rushed to an area hospital.
Officials had the freeway shut down until at least past 1:00 p.m. for the response. While an investigation remains underway, speed was determined to be a factor in both crashes.
Motorists were advised of delays impacting the area.
